Unplug and Read: 2014 Reading Goals

Friday, January 10, 2014

1. Read 50 books.
I have never kept track of how many books I can read in a year and 50 sounded like a solid number, so I'm doing it.

2. Go back and read at least one book from high school.
I never properly finished or was given the opportunity to read a lot of the books I was supposed to read in high school, so I'm hoping to tackle The Catcher in the Rye, 1984, and Of Mice and Men.

3. Read one classic.
I am all for chick-lit and easy reads, but I would like to challenge myself this year. (Let me know which one is your favorite!)

4. Finish the Delirium trilogy.
I started Delirium back in November for my Unplug and Read dystopian theme and didn't get to continue reading the trilogy due to the order of books I scheduled. Thankfully, I've stopped doing that (which I briefly discuss here) so I WILL be finishing this trilogy! I may also attempt to finish The Maze Runner trilogy as well :)

5. Re-read the entire Harry Potter series.
One of my favorite series, if not favorite, and just a must-do every year.

6. Read five already-bought books.
I always, and I mean always, buy books that I plan to read but end up leaving on my bookshelf to collect dust. I want to be able to say that I've read everything I own before I purchase new books! Some of my neglected books include The Year I Turned Sixteen, The Six Rules of Maybe, Beauty Queens, I'll Be There For You, and Ten Girls to Watch.

What is a reading goal you hope to accomplish this year?

  1. love your goals... 50 sounds a bit hard for me because i can never seem to find much time to sit down and read but i definitely need to work on some reading goals of my own this year. delirium trilogy is definitely one of them :)

  2. Wow great reading goals! I've also been wanting to re-read a book from high school. I feel like it would be more interesting now than it was in high school. Good luck with these goals! They sound do-able :D

  3. These are great goals! I also need to read some books that most people read in high school (i.e. Catcher in the Rye) and I could stand to read more classics as well. I reread Little Women last year and remembered how great it was, so I would recommend that if you haven't read it in a while!

  4. Stumbled upon your blog from Dana Fox's "Tip Me Tuesday" comments. Just wanted to say, I love your layout - it's so clean and simple! I love it! You also have great photos! Saw this post as well and thought I would tell you about Goodreads, if you haven't heard of it yet. I use it to keep track of the books I read, books I want to read, and books I've already read. Also, they have a Books read goal tracker, so you could input your 50 books and add to the entire social network's total goal for 2014!! Have fun and enjoy reading!

    1. I'm not sure if you'll get this comment, but I didn't know where else to respond :p Thank you, that means a lot to me :) I LOVE Goodreads. I didn't want to post it on my blog until I organized it, but I just recently added it to my links!
