August 2014 Recap

Saturday, August 30, 2014

Hi guys! (Well, mostly gals ... but I never say "gals" in real life so it just looks strange.) I hope you read a lot of books in August, because I sure didn't ...

Yes, your eyes do not deceive you. I only finished two books in August. It's quite embarrassing because I didn't start school until the 25th, which means I had plenty of time to read. I got through most of Let's Get Lost by Adi Alsaid, but I had to return it to the library. I'm in a bit of a reading slump right now, so hopefully I come across some good books in September.

  • The Giver by Lois Lowry — my family has had this book for ages and I still haven't gotten around to reading it. The movie is already out and I won't watch it unless I've finished the book.
  • Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver — one of my reading goals for this year is to finish the Delirium trilogy, which I was planning to do this month but ... as you can tell, that didn't turn out well.

At the beginning of August, I met Gayle Forman, Nina LaCour and Jandy Nelson at a book signing! It was my first time at a book-related event, so I was really excited to finally meet some authors :p I got to the bookstore two hours early (just in case) and bought The Sky is Everywhere and Everything Leads to You.

The day after that, I attended a pre-screening of If I Stay (thank you, Refinery29!) It was a beautiful movie, and I'll definitely be watching it again in theaters. Gayle Forman, Chloe Moretz and Liana Liberato also stopped by to introduce the movie, so that was pretty cool.

I don't normally attend concerts, but Ed Sheeran was going to be around so I had to buy tickets. Seeing and listening to him LIVE was a ton of fun. It was just him, his guitar and a loop pedal — crazy how good it still sounds!

Because I only read two books this month and did not complete any of my reading goals, I'm going to save myself from humiliation and refrain from posting a reading challenge update :p

Out of all the books you read in August, which one did you enjoy the most?
Did you watch If I Stay? What is something cool you did in August?

  1. Ah, reading slumps are the worst. I hope you can get yourself out of it. It's super cool that you got to meet Gayle Forman! I haven't seen If I Stay yet (or read the book), but I've heard such good things about both.

  2. I've had months where I only read 1 book and some with none at all, so no worries! Sometimes other things get in the way! I would love to go to more book readings and signings! They sound wonderful!

  3. I'm crying. I want to see Ed Sheeran so badly!

Reading slumps stink so bad. I always kind of force myself through them, and eventually they go away. Ooh, do finish the Delirium books! I loved all three, though I know a lot of people were dissatisfied with the open ending of Requiem... :) I hope your reading slump goes awayyyy!

  6. He was great, his singing is so beautiful live. I wish he talked more in between songs though!

I brought the last two books in the Delirium series with me, but I haven't started it yet. I need to stop looking through the YA section at the library!!!

  7. I still haven't. *turns away in shame* My library doesn't have it and my book budget was nonexistent this month. Perhaps in October!
